Mixed-News reports that as of September 18, PLAYSTATION VR2 is OUT OF STOCK on Sony’s own US storefront and at Target. PlayStation Direct still shows the headset at $399, but the page reads CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. The $49.99 Sense controller charging station next to it can still be added to a cart.

Target’s listing matched the shortage the same day: shipping and in-store pickup both unavailable, with no restock date on either page. Sony has not explained the gap or said when US inventory will return. The product page itself remains live, which is the clearest signal that the headset has not been formally DISCONTINUED.
A $399 headset you cannot ORDER from Sony right now
That $399 tag reflects Sony’s permanent March 2025 PRICE CUT from $549.99. For US buyers who waited for the discount, the irony is sharp: the lower sticker is still on the page, but the ADD-TO-CART path is gone. Anyone who needs a unit today is pushed toward the USED MARKET or third-party sellers, neither of which Sony is endorsing in Mixed-News’ reporting.

FIREWALL ULTRA went dark on September 17
Owners already absorbed a separate blow. Sony terminated online features for FIREWALL ULTRA on September 17 at 17:00 UTC (10:00am PDT). Because the tactical shooter requires a CONNECTION to play at all, those purchases now open a title that is no longer PLAYABLE. Developer First Contact Entertainment announced its closure in December 2024; the game still received an unexpected January 2025 UPDATE. Sony’s notice does not mention REFUNDS.
The same week, INTO THE RADIUS 2 slipped from a September 24 PS VR2 target to OCTOBER 8. CM Immersive told UploadVR it found issues during final CERTIFICATION and wants the version in better shape before launch. The PC build on Steam, live since April 23 at $39.99 in the US, is unaffected.

What the STOCK GAP means for the platform
Put together, a US PS VR2 owner ends the week with one fewer ONLINE SHOOTER, a two-week wait for a major SURVIVAL title, and—if they hoped to buy a spare headset from Sony or Target—an empty cart. Mixed-News is careful not to call this a permanent exit: the Direct listing stays up, the PRICE stays posted, and only AVAILABILITY has flipped. Until Sony restocks or comments, that is the entire public record.
