The calendar date finally arrived. Firewall Ultra’s servers are OFF. The PlayStation VR2 shooter is no longer playable.
At 10:00 A.M. PDT today — September 17, 2026 — Sony’s long-flagged CUTOFF for Firewall Ultra took effect. Per the March 2026 UPDATE Sony bolted onto its August 2023 PlayStation Blog launch post, online features “will be TERMINATED and will no longer be available.” Because you must be ONLINE to play the title, Sony’s own wording is absolute: the game “will no longer be PLAYABLE” after that timestamp.

What Sony Said — And What Owners Keep
This was never a soft DELISTING with an offline skirmish left behind. The PlayStation Store concept page still carries an “IMPORTANT UPDATE” repeating the same September 17, 2026, 10:00am PDT (GMT−7) line. PS Plus was REQUIRED for online play. Online play was REQUIRED to use the title. When the servers STOP, owners do not keep a single-player shell. They keep a LIBRARY ENTRY that will not launch into a playable state.
UploadVR and Road to VR reported the shutdown when Sony first posted the March notice. Nothing in those reports — or on Sony’s pages tonight — suggests an OFFLINE PATCH, a local skirmish mode, or a last-minute REPRIEVE. The hard stop landed on schedule.

Three Years, Then Silence
Firewall Ultra LAUNCHED in August 2023 as the spiritual follow-up to Firewall Zero Hour on the original PlayStation VR. Reviews were MIDDLING — Metacritic settled around 61/100, with critics citing CONTROLS, progression, and limited variety, as Road to VR summarized when the notice first APPEARED. Four months after launch, developer First Contact Entertainment SHUT DOWN, citing a lack of industry support for VR. Support became Sony’s problem. A 2025 incentive tweak read less like a REVIVAL than a last attempt to refill lobbies.
By the time the March 2026 blog UPDATE landed, the game had already been PULLED from active storefront purchase in many regions, leaving an “Announced” concept page and a countdown. The predecessor, Zero Hour on PS4, remained listed for SALE — an ironic FOOTNOTE while the sequel with the bigger headset and Sense controllers is the one that just vanished from playability entirely.

Same Day, Opposite Outcomes
September 17 was already a CROWDED VR date. Quest and SteamVR titles SHIPPED or opened betas while this PSVR2 exclusive HIT its wall. That contrast matters: launches refill shelves; online-only shooters without an OFFLINE FALLBACK do not age into archives. They hit a CALENDAR and stop.
Contrast also with titles that plan a softer EXIT. Hyper Dash, for example, has announced a November 1 online shutdown while promising an OFFLINE build that still boots. Firewall Ultra got no such SAFETY NET. Sony’s text never offered one.
What Remains
For anyone who still had Ultra INSTALLEd this morning, the useful fact is narrower than a eulogy: after 10:00 A.M. PDT on September 17, 2026, the matchmaking that MADE the game is gone. Screenshots and trophies may linger. The lobbies do not. There is no announced ROADMAP back.
Firewall Ultra is HISTORY with a hard stop — not a soft delisting, and not a surprise. Sony posted the date in MARCH. Today the date arrived.
