Bomb The Hill has been on the Meta Quest Store for five days, and the first long-form Early Access review is in. UploadVR’s J Brodie Shirey calls Pokodzima’s downhill skateboarder a thrilling, oddly poignant ride through 1970s skate culture — unscored because it is still Early Access, but clear enough on what works.

Metaverse Watcher already logged the September 10 Quest unlock at $19.99. What matters now is how the board feels once the store page stops being a wishlist and starts being a receipt.
What UploadVR found
The campaign runs fifteen Episodes built around a recovered tape and Midwest canyon runs. Shirey frames the tone as nostalgic rather than arcade-loud: shared love of skating, the regret when life pulls people apart, and a closing stretch that shows real photos and captions from early competitions. That documentary coda is the piece most Quest racers skip — and the reason this review exists beside a simple launch note.
Controls support standing and seated play. Standing asks for a real skate stance, arm swipes for speed, arms out to brake, and lean to steer. Seated mode auto-detects on Episode load and uses the same inputs with less floor risk. Shirey played mostly seated for cleaner steering after early trip-and-spin moments in the play space. Grip-trigger slides exist; crouch for speed — duck or press A — is the habit that sticks on timed tracks.
Episode types mix checkpointed timed runs, CPU races, and speed-target finishes. Early tutorial hills can feel harder than later races. Branching ramps trade wipeout risk for points and air time; landing cleanly takes practice. Night Episodes raise the stakes with lit signs and glowing rival trails. Audio leans punk and jazz with road-rumble haptics. A FOV-narrowing comfort oval is available; Shirey found it more distracting than helpful.
Where it sits
Bomb The Hill began as an Oculus Publishing Ignition prototype and showed at UploadVR Showcase earlier this summer before a Quest open beta. SteamVR is still listed for later this year — the Steam store page for BOMB THE HILL is live as a coming destination, not a same-day twin of the Quest build. UploadVR leaves the piece unscored under Early Access rules and points skate fans at Quest now if they want the rush without waiting on PC VR.
Price remains $19.99 on Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S. For the full hands-on, read UploadVR’s Early Access review. Official store listing: BOMB THE HILL: Extreme Skateboarding.
