Cubism, Thomas Van Bouwel’s long-running spatial PUZZLE title, now ships a STEAM FRAME VERIFIED build with STANDALONE Android support and MONOCHROME PASSTHROUGH for Valve’s new headset. The developer’s Steam news post marked the drop as FRAME launch day; the Steam store page now leads with a clear NEW callout: play in your own living room on STANDALONE Steam Frame using PASSTHROUGH mixed reality.

That PASS THROUGH mode is the HEADLINE change for PC owners who never had it on the tethered Steam build. Cubism’s Quest, Pico, and Android XR editions already offered mixed reality; the Frame update CLOSES that gap by letting colorful puzzle pieces float over a BLACK-AND-WHITE view of the room. Van Bouwel’s announcement notes that PASSTHROUGH tint can be set in Steam settings, and the studio shot a NEW trailer directly on Steam Frame to show the mode.
Under the hood, VERIFIED status means an ANDROID version is the DEFAULT when Cubism runs STANDALONE on Frame — no tethered PC required for the puzzle campaigns. The traditional SteamVR / OpenXR PC path remains for owners who still stream or cable in. Steam currently lists Cubism at $6.99 (30% off the $9.99 list), with 100% POSITIVE recent user reviews on a small sample and critic scores historically in the 80–85 range from UploadVR, VRFocus, and 6DOF Reviews.

The GAME itself is unchanged in structure: 90 PUZZLES across two campaigns, LIGHT and DARK VR modes, a local puzzle EDITOR, Steam Cloud, and twelve languages. Cubism launched on September 17, 2020 — six years to the week of Frame’s retail push — and has stayed one of the cleaner INTRO titles for spatial reasoning in VR. Van Bouwel publishes under Vanbo BV with Creature Label; his other active project, Laser Dance, remains Early Access on Quest 3.
For Steam Frame buyers, Cubism is a useful SIGNAL about Valve’s VERIFIED baseline: trusted catalog games arriving with the features the headset makes newly practical. Frame’s monochrome cameras unlock room-scale mixed reality without third-party hardware; separate ACCESSORIES such as the Arcturus Vision Camera target COLOR PASSTHROUGH for owners who want that upgrade. Cubism’s free update needs neither — it is LIVE on the existing Steam listing for anyone who owns the game or picks it up during the current discount.
