Detective VR is live on Steam and PlayStation VR2 today. Steam’s store API lists a firm $14.99 buy box and coming_soon: false with a September 9, 2026 release stamp. The Quest original has been out since February 2025 — this is the platform expansion, not a new case.
Studio Chipo y Juan and Valem Studio, published by VRKiwi, locked the dual-platform date at the UploadVR Summer Showcase in June. VR.org’s September 8 preview noted the Steam page still had no price on Tuesday. That gap is closed: the live Steam listing now sells the PC VR build at $14.99, and PlayStation’s storefront shows the PS VR2 SKU with a 9/9/2026 07:00 UTC unlock.

The commercial pitch has not changed since Games Press and UploadVR covered the date lock: roughly five hours of story, one mystery, six motion-captured characters, eleven sequences. Time control lets you rewind, pause, and scrub character replays to catch contradictions. The design goal the developers gave UploadVR at Quest launch still applies — “no friction between the player and the story” — which is why mixed reality and hand tracking sit at the center rather than as a demo mode.
Why the living-room port matters
VR.org’s launch-eve piece frames the hard question for PS VR2: Detective VR was built around passthrough in your actual room. PlayStation’s headset is a sealed visor with see-through as a camera feed, not optical glass. The store screenshots already show fully rendered environments — a Paris apartment with a roofline out the window — so the studio is not starting from nothing when your living room is unavailable. SteamVR inherits the same rendered fallback for headsets without color passthrough.
September’s calendar stays crowded around this quieter launch: Tales Of Glory 4: Ragnarok and Squingle Arcade also target September 9 on SteamVR, Gunman Contracts Stand Alone follows September 10, and Sol Protocol opens Quest Early Access on the 17th. Detective VR is the story-first counterweight — one case, unreliable witnesses, and a timeline you can scrub.
