FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR left Steam Early Access on October 23, 2026, and the version 1.0 release comes with a price increase. The SteamVR racer now costs $29.99, up from the $19.99 it sold for during Early Access, according to the official press release and the game’s Steam store page.

What Changed in FlatOut 4 VR Version 1.0
The VR port was developed by Mutar under the Flat2VR Spark program and published by Impact Inked. It first arrived on SteamVR in May as the first official Flat2VR Spark release. The 1.0 update is the largest since then. Flat2VR Studios lists these changes:
- Multiplayer overhaul: redesigned lobbies, joining races already in progress, spectating, riding along in another player’s passenger seat, AI drivers that fill empty grid slots, and automatic host migration when a host drops.
- Driving options: optional FlatOut 2 physics and AI settings, plus improved opponent AI.
- New content: additional cars, a motorcycle, and a map brought over from FlatOut 2.
- First-person ejections: drivers thrown through the windshield now see the flight from their own eyes, instead of the third-person camera used during Early Access.
- Hardware support: bHaptics integration, motion rig support, and more steering wheel compatibility.
- VR presentation: a redesigned interface, laser-pointer menus, better rearview mirrors, performance work and bug fixes.
Those additions build on a run of Early Access updates. The studio says wheel compatibility grew from a handful of configurations to hundreds of setups one week after launch, followed by custom music, multiplayer voice chat, better motion-controller steering, a reworked input system and a save editor.

Why the Price Went Up
The new $29.99 price matches the cost of the original flat-screen FlatOut 4, as UploadVR notes. Raising the price at full release is a common pattern in VR: Beat Saber moved from $19.99 to $29.99 when it left Early Access in 2019, and Forefront VR did the same earlier this year. Buyers who bought during Early Access already own the game, so the change only affects new customers.
Platforms and PC Requirements
FlatOut 4 VR is a PC VR title on SteamVR. Steam lists minimum requirements of 16 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1660 or equivalent, with OpenXR support and Meta Quest Touch controllers named in the VR section. That means Quest owners can play it over Steam Link, Air Link or a cable, a setup that got easier with SteamVR 2.18’s Quest USB streaming. There is no standalone Quest version. A PlayStation VR2 version is in development and can be wishlisted on the PlayStation Store, but it has no release date yet.

What It Means for Flat2VR
Flat2VR has built its reputation on bringing established flat-screen games into VR, and FlatOut 4 is the first Spark project to reach a full release. A port that ships, listens to its players and reaches 1.0 in about five months is a useful proof point for the program. It also adds to a busy autumn for PC VR, alongside launches such as Sol Protocol on November 11.
The training wheels are off! FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR is OUT NOW on SteamVR. New multiplayer features. UI improvements. bHaptics. New vehicles. And WAY MORE.
