Menlo Park — Meta closed Connect 2026 with a SURPRISE HARDWARE BEAT that is not glasses and not a headset. Mark Zuckerberg unveiled MUSE CHARM, a palm-sized “holdable” built so users can talk to Muse — Meta’s personal AI AGENT — without unlocking a phone or opening an app. Coverage from TechCrunch, The Verge, and Reuters frames Charm as Meta’s bid for ALWAYS-AVAILABLE agent hardware.
What it is. Charm is roughly AirPods-case sized with an about 2-INCH OLED touchscreen, a FINGERPRINT SENSOR in the corner, microphones, speakers, USB-C, and cameras meant primarily to show Muse what is happening around you. Meta’s own Connect roundup calls it a “delightful and fun device” for talking to Muse with a STATE-OF-THE-ART real-time VOICE MODEL in a POCKET form factor. How you use it. Tap the FINGERPRINT SENSOR and start SPEAKING — no phone unlock required. Zuckerberg said Meta “packed the whole Muse experience, including the whole real-time voice and AVATAR STACK, into something that fits on a KEYCHAIN.” The Verge notes a small camera and multiple mic holes on the front; Engadget describes a Tamagotchi-like screen avatar. Reporting carried by the Irish Times / Bloomberg wire adds front-and-back cameras, music and video PLAYBACK, a lanyard or wrist STRAP option, and a TRANSLUCENT case that shows internal circuitry — Meta’s elevated HACKER AESTHETIC.
5G, no calls, no PRICE. An ONBOARD 5G MODEM is meant to reach Muse away from Wi-Fi, but Charm does not make phone or video CALLS. Meta has not announced pricing. CTO Andrew Bosworth called the device an “exploration, the classic v0,” and people familiar with plans told Bloomberg-wire outlets it would land in SMARTWATCH-RANGE pricing, with carrier fees still unsettled. Zuckerberg said Meta has “only built a FEW” units so far and still needs to finalize finishing materials and component LAYOUT.
Ship window. Meta is targeting HOLIDAY 2026 — “ready to ship in time for the holidays in DECEMBER,” Zuckerberg said on stage — after internally ACCELERATING what was originally aimed at 2027, according to people briefed on the timeline. Design leadership ties back to Meta’s new lab under former Apple design chief Alan Dye, with Muse’s on-screen CHARACTER customizable in outfits, voice, and other attributes. Two Charms can also RECOGNIZE each other when placed nearby, per that same reporting.
Why it matters for XR. Connect already pushed Muse onto Mac with COMPUTER USE and toward Meta’s AI GLASSES lineup. Charm is the PHONE-FREE path: if you are not wearing glasses, Zuckerberg said this is “by far the FASTEST way to talk to your Muse and to show it what’s going on around you.” That puts Meta deeper into the crowded AI-HARDWARE race — next to failed or niche “amulet” devices — while tying the agent to the same CONNECT ecosystem as Ray-Ban Meta, Meta Glasses, and Meta VR Glasses.
