Zen Studios’ Pinball FX VR went LIVE on Steam on October 14 at $9.99, as one of the FIRST third-party VR games sold ONLY for Valve’s Steam Frame. Within HOURS, the studio posted a WARNING: a TECHNICAL fault is stopping the game from RECOGNISING some of the tables players have PAID for (Steam; Zen Studios).
The notice, posted at 10:27 a.m. ET and signed “Balti & The Zen Team,” says the team is “currently experiencing a technical issue affecting DLC recognition in the game.” The base game and its THREE included tables “should work properly,” but “some other purchased DLCs may be temporarily unavailable.” Zen says it is “actively working on a fix as quickly as possible.” It gives NO TIMELINE.
What actually works today
The INCLUDED part of the package is the part Zen says is SAFE. The $9.99 base game includes Pinball Noir, Sky Pirates: Treasures of the Clouds and Curse of the Mummy, the same THREE Zen Originals that open the Quest version. EVERYTHING else is an ADD-ON. MIXED counts 20 add-on PACKS on the store page, priced from $7.99 to $19.99 in the US, with single Williams tables such as The Addams Family and Twilight Zone at $14.99 EACH.

That puts the FAULT exactly where the MONEY is. A buyer who spends $9.99 gets a WORKING game. A buyer who also spends on Williams tables may, for now, OWN content the game does NOT load. For a launch that LEANS on its LIBRARY, that is the WORST place for a bug to sit.
The terms Zen set in September still apply
Zen laid out the COMMERCIAL shape on September 3, and we covered it then. Add-on PRICES are “aligned with the Meta version,” and the studio said “All 42 tables currently available in Pinball FX VR on Meta Quest are planned to be available at launch” (Zen Studios). Because several packs BUNDLE multiple tables, the count of 20 packs does not by itself show whether all 42 tables MADE it; we could not CONFIRM the FULL table list on launch day.
TWO September decisions matter MORE now that the game is out. FIRST, Quest PURCHASES do NOT carry over. “Unfortunately, transfers from Meta Quest to Steam Frame will not be possible,” Zen wrote, calling cross-store transfer “something we are not allowed to offer.” A Quest owner who MOVES to a Frame BUYS the tables AGAIN. The ONE offset is “Complete Bundles,” a 40% DISCOUNT for players who own the same tables in the flat-screen Pinball FX, which Zen says are “not timed offers.” SECOND, the MIXED REALITY mode that lets Quest players place cabinets in their living rooms is MISSING: “we won’t be able to include the Mixed Reality feature at launch.”

Frame-only, by design
The store page states it PLAINLY: “This game supports the Steam Frame hardware only.” Steam TAGS it VR Only. That is a far NARROWER target than a typical SteamVR release, and MIXED reads it as ruling out OTHER SteamVR headsets, including a Valve INDEX or a PC-tethered Quest 3. The timing is POINTED: Valve has just ended Index production, and Zen is BUILDING for the STANDALONE that replaces it, targeting visuals “similar to the Meta Quest 3 version” with its “Normal” physics model.
Early SIGNAL is THIN. When we checked the store page on the afternoon of launch day, it listed ONLY THREE user reviews, too FEW for Steam to generate a SCORE.
Why it matters
Steam Frame’s software story DEPENDS on known Quest titles arriving as NATIVE builds, and Pinball FX VR is exactly that kind of CATALOG title. Its launch also SHOWS the COST of the Frame’s separate store. OWNERSHIP does not MOVE between Meta and Valve, mixed reality features do not ARRIVE automatically, and an ENTITLEMENT bug can leave PAYING customers waiting on a fix. NONE of that is FATAL for a $9.99 game. It is a USEFUL reminder that a new headset’s library is only as good as the PLUMBING behind it.
What to WATCH: a DATED fix for DLC recognition, a CONFIRMED table count against the 42 Zen promised, and any ROADMAP for mixed reality on FRAME. UNTIL Zen posts the FIX, buyers who want SPECIFIC Williams tables have GOOD reason to WAIT.
