Steam Frame Lottery Tracker Puts Reservations Under Half

Valve finished its one-time Steam Frame reservation SHUFFLE on September 17. By September 18, a COMMUNITY tracker had enough self-reports to sketch the ODDS — and they are NOT generous.

According to PC Gamer (Jacob Ridley, September 18), the volunteer site steamframeout — built by coah80 — had passed roughly 35,000 RESPONSES. About 44.7% said they LANDED a reservation. About 51.6% reported WAITLIST. Another 3.8% said no email had arrived yet. That is a mood SAMPLE among people keen enough to find a tracker, not Valve’s OFFICIAL fill rate.

What the Numbers Actually Mean

Ridley’s piece, echoed later by Gamer Fridge and TweakTown, puts the reservation SIDE under half of the self-selected pool. TweakTown’s write-up, citing the same tracker as it climbed past 40,000 entries, rounded the reserved CAMP to fewer than 19,000 confirmed purchase INVITES among respondents. The waitlist alone already showed at least 18,254 people on the site — and both outlets STRESS that the true backlog is almost CERTAINLY larger, because most signups will never visit a fan tracker.

VR.org’s September 18 weekly digest frames the same SNAPSHOT the same way: useful as a CROWD signal, useless as a CENSUS. Valve has not published how many people signed up or how many units the FIRST batch covers.

How the Queue Works From Here

The mechanics are unchanged from Valve’s store language. Signups before the September 17 cutoff entered a one-time RANDOMIZATION. Reservation holders get purchase EMAILS starting September 18, each with a 72-hour window to PAY. Miss it and the UNIT rolls to the next person in line. Waitlisted buyers move up when invite holders PASS. New signups today join the BACK of that waitlist.

Retail stays $1,059 for the 256GB kit and $1,299 for the 1TB kit. Community reports also show the CHEAPER 256GB SKU as the more POPULAR choice country by country — a $240 gap that, Ridley notes, would have looked different before the RAM crunch PUSHED Frame above Valve’s original TARGET.

Buy the Email, Not the Screenshot

VR.org and UploadVR keep repeating the same WARNING as secondary listings chase waitlist ANXIETY: a reservation lives on the Steam ACCOUNT that signed up. Paying a stranger for a JPEG of an email is how you buy NOTHING. Valve’s own announcement says the lottery exists partly to LIMIT resellers. The tracker ODDS explain why that market is LOUD this week — more than HALF the vocal sample is still WAITING.

For product facts, Valve’s store page remains the source of truth: Steam Frame on Steam. Treat steamframeout as a LIVING poll, not inventory math. The percentages will move as more people post. The POLICY will not: reservation first, waitlist SECOND, 72 hours to DECIDE.
