VUZIX says a SMALL Houston software shop that has ALREADY run augmented reality MEDICAL training for U.S. MILITARY exercises is now PORTING its platform to the Ultralite Pro, the company’s LIGHTWEIGHT waveguide reference design. The October 6, 2026 PR Newswire release describes the deal as a PARTNERSHIP with Shiny Box Interactive. What it does NOT include is just as TELLING: no CONTRACT value, no named military CUSTOMER, no unit COUNT, and no DATE for when the Ultralite Pro version will be FIELDED.

What Shiny Box Has Actually Done
According to the release, Shiny Box has built custom TRAINING and tele-mentoring software on THREE EARLIER Vuzix devices: the M400, the M4000, and the Blade 2. Its work has included AR training services for U.S. military operational training EXERCISES using the M4000, covering CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives), medical, surgical, and critical-care scenarios that connect field MEDICS with REMOTE subject-matter experts.
The NEW step is moving that software from MONOCULAR enterprise headsets to a BINOCULAR, see-through GLASSES form factor. Vuzix says the Shiny Box platform is designed to run across Starlink SATELLITE links, CELLULAR broadband, local-area networks, and MOBILE ad hoc networks, and lists CASUALTY-care support, evacuation COORDINATION, and access to remote specialists as target uses.
“Bringing our platform to Ultralite Pro is an important next step, allowing us to pursue these capabilities in a lighter, more wearable see-through smart glasses platform for demanding military and tactical environments.”
Todd Daniel, Managing Partner, Shiny Box Interactive
Note the verb: PURSUE. The release frames this as DEVELOPMENT work, not a DELIVERED product or an AWARDED program.
The Only Public Paper Trail Is Small
The one federal record we could find naming the company is MODEST. A Department of Defense notice, FA500425Q0011, posted January 30, 2025 by the 354th Contracting Squadron at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, announced an INTENT to sole-source “Augmented Reality Training” to Shiny Box LLC, with Fort Wainwright, Alaska listed as the place of performance. Responses CLOSED February 6, 2025. The listing summarizes the attached justification as covering a buy above $3,500 but BELOW the federal simplified acquisition threshold, which puts it in SMALL-purchase territory.
NEITHER Vuzix nor Shiny Box ties that notice to the exercises described in today’s release, so treat it as CONTEXT, not confirmation. It does show that the company has SOLD AR training to the military. It does NOT show a program of RECORD, and nothing in the announcement suggests one.
What Ultralite Pro Brings to the Table

Ultralite Pro is a REFERENCE platform, not a RETAIL product. Vuzix FIRST showed the OEM version at CES 2025 as a design built with Quanta Computer, and the enterprise version was a CES 2026 Innovation Awards honoree. Vuzix LISTS a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor, DUAL full-color LCoS projectors from Avegant, binocular WAVEGUIDES with a 30-DEGREE field of view, its Incognito technology to CUT forward light LEAKAGE, and a total weight UNDER 80 grams, according to its OEM platform page and award announcement.
That Incognito detail MATTERS more for this use case than the field of view. GLASSES that GLOW outward are a LIABILITY in TACTICAL settings, which is the same pitch Vuzix made for its Shrike defense display platform on September 29. Shrike targets CUSTOM defense displays; Ultralite Pro is the LIGHTER, everyday-glasses route.
Our Take
This is Vuzix’s THIRD defense- or enterprise-channel announcement in TWO weeks, after the CommsPlus distribution deal for Australia and New Zealand and the Shrike launch. The pattern is CLEAR: Vuzix is selling its OPTICS and reference designs to partners who OWN the customer. Shiny Box brings REAL field experience in military medicine, but this release is a SOFTWARE PORT announcement. The numbers that would make it MATERIAL, such as an ORDER, a unit count, or a named unit, are still MISSING. WATCH for whether a Shiny Box contract on Ultralite Pro ever shows up in FEDERAL records.
