How We Ranked These Games

Metaverse Watcher does not run its own review lab, so this list is an editorial ranking built from public data and our ongoing coverage. We weighed three things: user sentiment on Steam (and how many reviews back it up), critic scores where Metacritic lists them, and how well each game shows off what only VR can do. We also favored games that are comfortable for most players, since puzzle fans often come to VR for seated, low-motion play. Prices are Steam’s US prices on November 8, 2026; most of these games are also sold on the Meta Horizon Store, where prices can differ.

1. The Room VR: A Dark Matter

Fireproof Games took the tactile puzzle-box design of its mobile hit and rebuilt it for VR. Set in 1908 London, it sends you into a museum mystery where every drawer, lens and mechanism can be handled in your hands. It is the best introduction to VR puzzles because it is polished, comfortable for nearly everyone, and rarely leaves you stuck for long.

Steam: $24.99, 97% of 2,508 reviews positive, released Mar 26, 2020. Best for: Players who want a premium, atmospheric first puzzle game.

2. I Expect You To Die 3: Cog in the Machine

Schell Games’ spy series turns each level into a deadly escape room where improvising with gadgets is the whole point. The third entry has the highest Metacritic score on this list at 89. If you like it, the original I Expect You To Die is also $24.99, with 94% of 1,719 Steam reviews positive.

Steam: $24.99, 91% of 616 reviews positive, released Sep 28, 2023. Best for: Seated play and anyone who likes trial-and-error humor.

3. Red Matter 2

Vertical Robot’s sci-fi adventure mixes environmental puzzles with exploration and some light combat, wrapped in a Cold War-inspired setting. It is also one of the best-looking games on standalone headsets, which makes it a strong showcase title. Metacritic: 84.

Steam: $29.99, 92% of 690 reviews positive, released Aug 18, 2022. Best for: Players who want a longer story-driven puzzle adventure.

4. Moss and Moss: Book II

Polyarc’s diorama adventures have you guide Quill, a small mouse hero, while also reaching into the world yourself to move objects and solve puzzles. Both games sit at $19.99. Book II has the higher user score, while the original has more than twice as many reviews and a Metacritic 81.

Steam: $19.99, 98% of 741 reviews positive, released Oct 20, 2022. Best for: Families and anyone who wants a gentle, cinematic experience.

5. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

The best party puzzle game in VR. One player wears the headset and faces a bomb; everyone else reads a printed or on-screen manual and talks them through it. Its 8,145 Steam reviews are 98% positive. See more group options in our best co-op VR games.

Steam: $14.99, 98% of 8,145 reviews positive, released Oct 8, 2015. Best for: Game nights, holidays and mixed groups of VR and non-VR players.

6. Cubism

A minimalist block-fitting game from solo developer Thomas Van Bouwel. There is no story and no timer, just a steadily harder set of 3D shape puzzles. At $9.99 and 100% positive on Steam, it is the best value on this list.

Steam: $9.99, 100% of 48 reviews positive, released Sep 17, 2020. Best for: Short sessions and players who get motion sick easily.

7. Escape Simulator

Pine Studio’s escape room game supports VR alongside flat play, with online co-op and a huge library of rooms. On November 8 it was 50% off on Steam at $9.99, down from $19.99, and it has the most reviews of any game here at 9,023.

Steam: $9.99, 95% of 9,023 reviews positive, released Oct 19, 2021. Best for: Co-op escape room fans and anyone who wants endless content.

8. Myst

Cyan’s ground-up remake of the 1993 classic supports VR as well as flat play, so you can explore the island at your own pace. It is the most expensive pick at $34.99 and has a Metacritic 78, but nothing else on this list offers the same sense of mystery.

Steam: $34.99, 88% of 1,561 reviews positive, released Aug 26, 2021. Best for: Classic adventure fans and fans of slow, thoughtful exploration.

9. A Fisherman’s Tale

InnerspaceVR’s puppet adventure is built on one clever idea: a model of the lighthouse you are standing in, which contains a smaller you, and so on. Changing one scale changes the others. It is short, but at $9.99 it is one of the most inventive VR games ever made. The sequel, A Fisherman’s Tale 2, is $14.99 with 84% of 173 reviews positive.

Steam: $9.99, 94% of 1,098 reviews positive, released Jan 22, 2019. Best for: A single-evening puzzle you will keep telling friends about.

10. Tiny Flock

The newest game on this list, from Human Fall Flat studio No Brakes Games, launched on Quest and SteamVR on September 29, 2026. You guide a flock of sheep across 21 physics-based diorama stages, and most puzzles have more than one solution. UploadVR’s review called it “almost impossible not to enjoy,” with its only complaint being that it wanted more stages (see our summary of that review). All 86 Steam reviews so far are positive, but the count is still small, so treat the 100% score as early.

Steam: $18.99, 100% of 86 reviews positive, released Sep 29, 2026. Best for: Players who want something new for 2026.

11. The Talos Principle VR

Croteam’s VR version of its philosophical first-person puzzler is the most demanding brain-teaser here, with dozens of laser and logic puzzles. It is a PC VR game; Quest owners can play it over Link or Steam Link using our PC VR on Quest 3 guide.

Steam: $29.99, 83% of 816 reviews positive, released Oct 17, 2017. Best for: Experienced puzzle players with a PC VR setup.
