Steam Frame Purchase Emails Start Today. 72 Hours to Pay — or Lose Your Slot.

Valve started sending Steam Frame PURCHASE EMAILS on September 18 — and a place in the randomized QUEUE is still not a headset in hand. According to MIXED, each invitation carries a hard 72-HOUR CHECKOUT clock before the slot ROLLS to the next buyer in line.

The timetable follows a three-day SIGN-UP window that opened with the September 14 LAUNCH and closed September 17 at 10 a.m. PT. Valve then shuffled each regional list ONCE and emailed everyone either a reservation-queue notice or a WAITLIST notice. Purchase links for the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the EU, and Australia go out “in the order they were randomized into,” MIXED reports, citing Valve’s Limited Drop FAQ and program TERMS.

72 Hours. No Second Chance on That Link.

Valve’s terms say people in the queue receive the email “as units become AVAILABLE,” with the FIRST BATCH dated September 18, and that “the Link will expire 72 hours after it is sent by Valve.” Miss it and the opportunity EXPIRES — the unit does not sit IDLE while you dig through spam folders next week.

Prices are UNCHANGED from Valve’s launch post: $1,059 (US) for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB, with EU and UK equivalents (€1,049 / €1,279 and £889 / £1,089). Shipping is EXTRA, and Valve’s first-party accessories — including the $29 45W power supply that is NOT in the box — can only be ADDED during this checkout, per MIXED’s read of the FAQ.

Waitlist Is Not a Guarantee

A waitlist email means your draw “ended up beyond the number of Steam Frame units currently available to ship,” Valve’s FAQ says. If people ahead CANCEL or burn their 72 hours, you can move UP — and Valve says it will email you if that happens. Future production runs are described as going to the waitlist IN ORDER, with a caveat that Valve “reserves the right to discontinue the waitlist at any time.” Late sign-ups after the September 17 RANDOMIZATION go to the BACK of that list.

VR.org notes that Valve has not published signup or first-batch UNIT counts. A community TRACKER (steamframeout) that PC Gamer checked Friday showed roughly 35,000 self-reported results — about 44.7% reserved, 51.6% waitlisted — which VR.org correctly flags as a MOOD check, not a CENSUS.

Eligibility, Regions, and What You Cannot Change

Entrants needed a Steam account in good STANDING with a purchase before April 27, 2026, residency in a shipping region, age 18+, and ONE signup per HOUSEHOLD — checked against payment and shipping data. Scripted registrations are VOID. Model choice is LOCKED: once randomized, you cannot SWAP 256GB for 1TB.

Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong SKIP the email lottery and order through distributor KOMODO; South Korea follows later. Everyone else needs the purchase email FIRST — then 72 hours and a spare $1,059.

Bottom line for Metaverse Watcher readers: September 18 is not OPEN retail. It is CONTROLLED scarcity with a COUNTDOWN timer. Watch the inbox, keep a payment method READY, and treat any eBay “reservation screenshot” as what it is — a JPEG, not a HEADSET.
