Voxel Playground PC VR Launch: Steam Price and Features

By Metaverse Watcher staff · October 27, 2026

Voxel Playground, the destructible physics sandbox that became one of the better-rated Early Access games on Quest, is now on PC VR. Developer Cydream released it on Steam today, October 27, 2026, priced at $6.99 in the US, and the PC build arrives with the full content of the major Quest update that shipped earlier this month, as UploadVR reported.

What is in the PC VR version

The Steam release is not a cut-down port. It includes everything from the recent Quest update:

  • A new Bank Heist map with a bank, a vault and multiple ways to plan a robbery.
  • Community mod support, which Cydream positions as a core feature; the Steam page calls it “a highly moddable destructible physics sandbox.”
  • Overhauled gore and destruction.
  • Seven sandbox maps, including the earlier Prison, Night Club, Construction Site and Bloodmoon maps.
  • Survival mode.

The game is playable both in VR and on a flat screen. On Steam it lists single-player, Steam Achievements, tracked controller support and Family Sharing. It remains an Early Access title, and the developer has said multiplayer is planned for this year’s “Christmas update.”

PC requirements

The bar is modest by PC VR standards. Cydream lists the following on Steam:

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10Not listed
CPUIntel Core i5 8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600Not listed
Memory16 GB RAMNot listed
GPUGTX 1060RTX 2060
Storage4 GB10 GB
VR supportOpenXR; Oculus Touch and Valve Index controllers

Because it runs on OpenXR, Quest owners with a capable PC can also play the Steam version over Air Link, Steam Link or a cable. Our guide to playing PC VR games on Quest covers each option, and Valve’s recent SteamVR 2.18 update with Quest USB streaming is worth installing first.

Why this launch matters

Voxel Playground went into Early Access on Quest at the very end of 2025 and, according to UploadVR, holds a 4.8 out of 5 rating from nearly 5,000 user ratings on the Horizon Store. That is a strong signal for a small studio, and moving to Steam gives Cydream two things the Quest store cannot: a much larger pool of modders working with PC tools, and an audience that plays on Index, Pico, Quest via streaming and, from next year, Valve’s own headset.

Timing helps too. Valve’s Steam Frame is drawing fresh attention to SteamVR, and affordable, replayable sandboxes are the kind of software that keeps new headset owners engaged after the first week. At $6.99, Voxel Playground is priced well below most VR releases; for comparison, FlatOut 4 VR left Early Access at $29.99 last week.

What to watch next

The key open question is MULTIPLAYER. Cydream has tied it to a Christmas update but has not announced a date or whether cross-play between Quest and Steam is planned. We will also be watching how quickly the Steam Workshop or other mod channels fill up, since that will decide whether the PC version becomes the definitive one.
